New Electronic Actuator Offers Precise Control

Young & Franklin introduces the 7-5079 Series Electronic Controlled Hydraulic Servo Actuator for use in applications where precise servo actuation control utilizing low pressure hydraulics is required.

Y&F's latest actuator design integrates an electronic controller, a control valve, an electric linear actuator and a position feedback device, all within a compact package. The 7-5079 Series actuator comes standard with a 1.5" stroke, provides 0 - 500# of linear force derived from 20 - 500 psig line pressure and utilizes an anti-rotation guide design to protect against side and rotational loads.

Y&F engineers designed the next generation of servo control, providing several advantages over standard torque motor hydraulic servo actuator designs with mechanical feedback. The integrated controller uses 4-20 mA analog command and position signals and provides users with positional control of less than 1% of each point. The on-board electronic controller monitors actuator status and provides protection against loss of command, low supply voltage and coil over current. In addition, the design of the 7-5079 enables extremely low hysteresis of less than 1% The integrated package design of the 7-5079 eliminates contamination issues to extend service life.

The versatile 7-5079 Series direct-acting valve actuator is certified for use in potentially explosive atmospheres and has applications in both gas and steam turbine control. For industrial turbines up to 15 MW, the actuator can be used for liquid or gas fuel valve actuation, air bleed valve actuation or as high-precision feedback devices for inlet guide vane actuators.

For steam turbines, the 7-5079 Series actuator can be used as a pilot amplifier for steam extraction valves. Coupled with a Y&F PID controller and an LVDT (for secondary feedback), the 7-5079 provides superior electronic control of the valve while reducing the amount of linkages required in the system. The low pressure hydraulic capability allows for the use of the existing lube oil supply, further reducing costs.

Power generation turbine operators have come to know Young & Franklin for meeting their challenges with innovation. The 7-5079 Series is no exception. The actuators are available in two housing configurations: aluminum for standard applications or stainless steel for harsh off shore environments. Click here for more information.
