Young & Franklin Knows IGCC
Unstable natural gas prices, stricter environmental regulations, and technological advances have
combined to make Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) ready for competition in today's open
energy markets. IGCC is the cleanest, most efficient solution for the conversion of low-value fuels such
as residual oil, petroleum coke and coal into high-value, low-Btu synthesis gas fuel (syngas) for power
generation. Emissions can be controlled with IGCC since many harmful pollutants are removed from the raw fuel via chemical processing before it is burned. Along with providing power generation fuels, IGCC
creates chemical production and co-generation steam by-products, further increasing economic value of the system. In order to deliver on the economic promise of this technology, IGCC gas turbines must operate with extremely high reliability. Control valves from Young & Franklin provide excellent performance over a wide
range of syngas concentrations. In addition, Y&F's proprietary designs provide the most robust control
solution to maximize turbine on-stream factor. Why choose Young & Franklin fuel control valves? Experience
Young & Franklin has been providing specialty fluid controls for the gas turbine industry since 1949.
Our IGCC experience dates back to 1982. In total, Y&F has collaborated on over 10 IGCC projects
worldwide, including the following: | SCE Cool Water (USA) | PSI/Global (USA) | | Tampa Electric (USA) | Sierra Pacific (USA) | | MOTIVA Delaware (USA) | IVA ISE (Taranto) | | Sarlux/Enron (Italy) | LaBarge (USA) | | Tonghua & Jinang | |
Innovation Young & Franklin's 8577 Series actuators utilize our patented high-torque actuation technology that was designed specifically to address the control, speed and safety challenges of the low-Btu fuels found in modern IGCC plants. For more information on this technology, go to: www.yf.com/news_details.cfm
With a supply pressure of 1200 - 1700 psig, our actuators control valves ranging in size from 1 inch
to 16 inches with torques up to 55,000 in-lbs and forces in excess of 25,000 lbs. Our designs are
highly capable of handling a wide variety of low-Btu and enriched IGCC syngas fuels. Custom Solutions
Young & Franklin understands that IGCC opportunities are not all identical. Hydrogen concentrations in
syngas can vary from under 10% to over 60%. Whatever the level of customization required, our
engineers work directly with customers to provide the right control valve for the application at hand. Explore www.yf.com to find the right solution for you.
