Young & Franklin Inc. and its subsidiary, Tactair Fluid Controls Inc., are manufacturers
of controls used by the land-based turbine, aircraft, defense, solar power and oil industries. The company, founded in 1918, is privately
owned and is located in Liverpool, a suburb of Syracuse, New York.
Since the 1950's, Y&F has been the original source of robust precision hydraulic controls to the land-based gas turbine industry. We
continue to manufacture a broad range of products for GE Energy (including Nuovo Pignone and Energy Products Europe), Solar Turbines,
Pratt & Whitney and others around the world.
Building on our knowledge and experience in the turbine control, we have developed a line of electromechanical, electrohydrostatic and
voice coil products to complement our hydraulic offerings. The company offers a complete product line to support:
- Actuation for hydraulic or electric control on OEM turbines
- Field upgrades to fully electronic turbine control
- Maintenance and overhaul of existing units
Y&F has also launched a line of Concentrated Solar Power Actuators utilizing a revolutionary single-cylinder driven design, which employs a

In addition, we initiate Independent Research and Development (IRAD) projects to ensure that we deliver advanced technology to the market ahead of our competition. System modeling enables our engineers to simulate the performance of a new design before prototypes are built. Y&F's technology systems support our engineers with the following:
- 3-D parametric modeling
- dynamic and static systems modeling
- finite element analysis
These designs are then efficiently transferred to manufacturing by way of our integrated CAE/CAD/CAM systems. Our operations staff employs Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Six Sigma systems on the manufacturing floor as integral process control tools. Data are monitored using automated inspection and gauging equipment. Together these efforts promote efficiency and provide customers with consistently superior products.
Testing Assures Dependability
Young & Franklin tests every product prior to shipment. Our extensive in-house facilities enable us to
test products using a variety of fluids, pressures and flows to verify critical performance
characteristics such as bandwidth, hysteresis, efficiency and environmental compatibility. Data are recorded and archived to support our design, quality assurance and customer support requirements. Our robust designs, efficient manufacturing and extensive testing have consistently yielded products that operate flawlessly in the field.
